"Grilled chicken is a healthy meal option packed with protein. It’s even healthier if you remove the skin before cooking or eating it. Some home chefs worry that grilled chicken won’t be as juicy as fried chicken, but with the right recipes, it’s just as flavorful.  To help you out, we’ve shared five of our favorite grilled chicken recipes that are high in flavor and low in fat and calories.

 

Simple Grilled Chicken Breasts 

This recipe is great for people who enjoy white meat. Pair it with a salad and brown rice for a complete meal.  Ingredients: 

  • ¼ c. balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 1 tsp. dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme 
  • 4 chicken breasts 
  • Salt and pepper
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish 

 

Directions: 

  • Combine first 6 ingredients. Reserve ¼ cup.
  • Add chicken breasts. Marinate for at least 20 minutes. 
  • Toss chicken breasts on grill, basting with reserved marinade until cooked through, about 6 minutes on each side.
  • Garnish with parsley. 

 

Lemon Grilled Chicken Breasts 

With just a few ingredients and a fresh hint of lemon, this recipe is both simple and delicious.  Ingredients: 

  • 3 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced 
  • 7 chicken breasts 
  • Salt and pepper 

 

Directions: 

  • Combine first 4 ingredients in a large plastic bag.
  • Add chicken breasts. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Remove chicken from bag and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Grill chicken for 6 minutes on each side.

 

Grilled Chicken Kabobs  

Chicken kabobs make it easy to get your protein and your veggies. Feel free to swap out these veggies with cherry tomatoes or mushrooms.  Ingredients: 

  • ¼ c. olive oil
  • ⅓ c. soy sauce 
  • ¼ c. honey
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced 
  • Salt and pepper 
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • 1 red onion 
  • 2 zucchini 
  • 1 tbsp. parsley, chopped 
  • 1 lb. chicken breasts

 

Directions: 

  • Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl. 
  • Add chicken and vegetables. Cover for at least 1 hour. 
  • Thread chicken and veggies onto pre-soaked skewers.
  • Grill 5-7 minutes on each side. Sprinkle with parsley. 

 

Grilled BBQ Chicken

This recipe uses the whole chicken and pleases everyone, making it a family favorite.  Ingredients: 

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil 
  • 2 c. barbecue sauce
  • Salt and pepper 

 

Directions: 

  • Season chicken with salt and pepper. 
  • Cook chicken skin side down for 15 minutes. 
  • Turn over, baste with BBQ sauce. Cook for 20-30 minutes more. 

 

Teriyaki Grilled Chicken Thighs 

The sweetness from the teriyaki combined with the flavor from the thighs make this flavorful dish.  Ingredients: 

  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. honey 
  • 2 tbsp. ketchup 
  • ¼ c. orange juice 
  • 2 green onions
  • 1 garlic clove, minced 
  • 1 tbsp. ginger, minced 
  • 1 ½ lbs. chicken thighs 

 

Directions: 

  • Combine first 4 ingredients in large bag. 
  • Add chicken and marinate for 2 hours.
  • Grill thighs 5-7 minutes on each side.
