Originally incorporated as New Providence Township in 1809, it became Berkeley Heights in 1951. History remains a prominent part of the township.
The remains of the Deserted Village, a town built in the mid-1800s on the bluff above the Blue Brook, is a popular tourist spot for history buffs. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Littell-Lord Farmhouse Museum & Farmstead also pays homage to the past.
Berkeley Heights, a close-knit community with a population of around 13,600, has been called a commuter’s dream, sitting just 28 miles from New York City and in close proximity to many major highways and major airports. It’s the best of both worlds.
